It’s hard to believe that it’s already the beginning of June, which means it’s summer break for a lot of people. How did we get here so fast? I remember being a kid and during the beginning of summer, my dad would tease me that summer was almost over, and school was just around the corner. As a kid, summers seemed endless, until they weren’t. In the middle of summer, it seemed like summer would last forever, but I would find myself wondering where all the time went once we got to the end of August.

As an adult, things are not much different. My life is often busy and time moves fast. I often think I have way more time than I really do and the things I put off until tomorrow can often get delayed for weeks and months. This includes me getting around to home projects, making vacation plans, and having needed conversations with people in my life.

The truth is though, as busy as I am today, I will never actually have more time than I do right now. There will never be more than 24 hours in a day or 7 days in a week.  My problem is not a matter of time as much as it is a matter of priority. There are some things that I really need to prioritize and slow down to do, such as spending time with my wife, discipling my kids, studying God’s word, praying to the Lord, being engaged in Christian community, making disciples of Jesus, and exercising (important, but not as important as the other six things on my list).

The busy season of summer is upon us all! What will you prioritize this summer? I pray that you and I make the most of our time by prioritizing things of eternal significance and value to the glory of our Redeemer!
