FAQ

What does counseling look like?

Counseling occurs during sessions between a counselor and a counselee. Throughout this process, counselors seek to understand a counselee’s heart, life experiences, and current challenges, offering biblical solutions to their concerns During sessions, counselors listen as counselees share their experienciences and gently engage them with the truth of God’s Word to help them see its relevance to their lives. After each session, counselees receive growth assignments and homework designed to deepen their understanding of God, themselves, and their situations, with tools and resources to navigate difficult life circumstances. These completed growth assignments are reviewed in the next session.

How long is a counseling session? How many sessions do I need?

Each counseling session typically lasts about one hour, extending longer for marriage and family counseling. Because each case is unique, it is challenging to determine the number of sessions needed; your counselor will provide feedback throughout the process. Completing the Counseling Request Form with detailed information helps us deliver appropriate counseling efficiently. Counseling is a collaborative process, and your openness and willingness to engage will enhance its effectiveness.

Is there a fee for counseling?

One of our goals is to make biblical counseling available to everyone regardless of their financial situation. To make this possible, East Tennessee Biblical Counseling relies on the donations of counselees and other ministry partners. We ask counselees to consider making a donation after each session to support the ministry. The suggested donation for counseling sessions is $65 per individual session and $130 per marriage/family session, but if they are unable to give the full suggested donation, any amount that they are able to give is helpful to support us as we continue to serve them and others from around our area.
