Why Biblical Counseling

April 26, 2026

By Sydney Bond, Biblical Counselor

God has used biblical counseling in my life in a short amount of time. He has strengthened my faith, has and is correcting my view of myself, life and most importantly of Him. He has done this through His abounding great grace, as I have had the chance to sit with women in counseling. Looking back on my life, I needed biblical counseling. I needed to allow the Word of God to dwell richly within me. As a teen, there was a lot of secret sin in my life. I needed to take the truths from God’s Word and apply it to my heart so that real, lasting change could occur. Anything that is not hope from God and His Word will fall short and  leave us with thirsty souls.

In a world full of headlines changing almost minute to minute, trends changing with the seasons, and situations and circumstances changing just as quickly, we need a solid foundation. We need promises that are going to come to pass no matter what, we need guidance that is for our good, and we need assurance in the Holy God who can be trusted. Biblical counseling knows that what is written in Isaiah 40:8 is true, “the Word of our God will stand forever.” When we are in the midst of a difficult season, we need the hope of God’s Word because we know it is reliable.

Biblical counseling fully relies on the work of God to bring about healing and change for people. This is a great grace from the Lord for both the counselor and the counselee. As counselors, we strive, study, pray, show compassion, and do our best to honor God in each session. This gives the counselor relief to know that we can approach the hardest of situations, trusting God to work. As I offer counsel from God’s Word, God is constantly encouraging and convicting me.

The truths from God’s Word that I get to share in biblical counseling bring about steadfast hope and peace because our goal is to see God rightly. In seeing Him rightly, we see our lives and ourselves rightly. Only then will we have peace to know that all things work together for our good and His glory. God has been so gracious to show me Himself through biblical counseling and to allow me to watch Him bring healing.

Sydney Bond has been counseling for two years. She finds great joy and delight in seeing God use His Word to bring healing to brokenness. She holds a B.S. degree in Special Education from Union University and an MDiv in Biblical Counseling from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
